I met Miss Hepburn on a few occasions, she was on her own turf, but I never found her rude, or worse, to 'put up a front of rudeness' she seemed not to waste time w/ such things. Far more likely that she just plainly didn't like Jane, and told her of the Hepburns spoke their feelings quite clearly or not at all.
